SXSW 2011 Resources

If you had a chance to hear my talk, Your Meetings Suck and It’s Your Fault, at SXSW – thank you so much for coming! I hope you found it to be equal parts informed, practical, and fun. If you’d like to read any of the books or obtain some of the resources I mentioned in my talk, you can find them in this Amazon Wish List. This is a great list for anyone interested in reading about meetings design and good facilitation. If Amazon has changed URLs on me, an almost identical list can be found at UX Zietgiest.

Also, feel free to provide me with any feedback or questions in the comments below. Thanks!

I really enjoyed this session. It was quite a good start to SXSWi!

One thing you pointed out is the roles. I’m trying to be the leader, facilitator and recorder all at the same time so I think that’s an easy place to start with introducing change. Another thing I really liked was the fact that you offered up some additional resources. I’m always looking to learn and books are one way to do that.

I can’t wait to try some new things with our meetings. Thanks for doing the preso and getting me thinking!

This was probably my favourite talk at SXSW this year. Thank you.

Thanks Andy! Thanks Jodi! I often play the role of facilitator and leader at the same time, but I also try to have someone on the client side who plays a leadership or decision making role that I can review my thinking with. Facilitator and recorder at the same time is difficult, but I’ve done it in a pinch. It’s just hard to keep on your toes as a facilitator if you are constantly writing or typing. Good luck!

Kevin, thanks so much for the excellent talk at SXSW. I was one of the folks who came up and bugged you about whether you were going to share a copy of your slideshow later! Do you plan to post that anywhere? Understood if not, but would love to be able to share with some of the folks back here at work who were not able to go to the conference… thanks!

Kevin,
As the others mentioned, GREAT talk. It was the first talk that I attended at SXSW, and it set the bar pretty high for the rest of the conference – lots of excellent takeaways.

I had a question I wanted to ask about the four roles you mentioned, specifically the Facilitator and Leader roles. Where can I go to learn how to become a better Facilitator? Also, where can I find more information about the Leader role? Having a detailed breakdown of the “duties” of each role would be tremendously helpful in getting others on board.

Thanks again!
